Intimate partner abuse affects thousands of people in Montgomery County each year.  It happens to people of all religions, ages, races, income levels, and educational backgrounds.  Much of the abuse is against the law.  All of the abuse is against the teachings of the world’s major religions, which teach that violence in any form is wrong and that relationships between people should be respectful and peaceful.

 Domestic violence is a pattern of coercive behaviors used by one person to control another person in an intimate relationship.

 These behaviors may include:

• physical violence
• sexual violence
• threats and intimidation
• emotional abuse
• social isolation
• destruction of property
• cruelty to pets
• abuse involving the children
• financial control

 This abuse is serious, terrifying, and sometimes deadly.  It destroys families and damages everyone involved, including extended family and friends.

 No one deserves to be abused!
